ISRO will Train Students in Space Science
  • A special program for School Children called Young Scientist program “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (युविका) (YUVIKA) from now onward has been launched by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).
  • The primary aim of Program (YUVIKA) is to impart basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications to the students with the intent of arousing their interest in the areas of Space activities.
  • ISRO has started this program to “Catch them young” which means to create the interest of the students in the area.
  • The residential training program will be of approximately two weeks duration during summer holidays and it is proposed to select 3 students each from every State or Union Territory to participate in this program YUVIKA or Young Scientist program every year covering CBSE, ICSE and State syllabus.
  • Students who have finished Eighth standard and presently studying in Ninth standard will be eligible for this program.
  • ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) has approached the Chief Secretaries of the respective States and Administrators of Union Territories in India to schedule the selection of three students from each of their State/Union Territories and share the list with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
    • As clearly mentioned in the selection criteria, the selection will be based on the academic performance and extracurricular activities. This has already been circulated to Chief Secretaries of States and Administrators of Union Territories. Students who belongs to the rural area have been given special weightage in the selection criteria.
  • The list of the finally selected candidates for the program YUVIKA / Young Scientist program from every state is expected to be released by March end 2019.
