In early 1991 Shri Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Minister (PM) of India, announced the founding of Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) in the name of his ideologue. Starting out with a temporary allotment of four rooms in a SPS structure in R. K. Puram, Sector 4 School, the college enrolled its first batch of students and began its schooling programs with mainly two courses – B.Com. [Hons] and B.Sc with eighty students.
In August 1992, the college then moved to its current temporary premises in Govindpuri, Kalkaji, which had been vacated by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and hence they alo started with two new courses B.Sc (Hons) Electronics and B.Sc General Computer Science (CS). Later in 1993, they have also added B.Sc (Hons) in Physics and Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and in 1994, Mathematics has also been added, in 1995 B.Sc General ‘B’ group and B.Sc General Sericulture in 1995 and in 1996 PGDCA were added.
Just prior to the end of the decade B.Sc Hons Computer Science (CS) and B.C.A were started in 1997 which soon metamorphic into two very popular courses – Bachelors in Information Technology (IT) and B. Information Science in 1998. Due to UGC instruction these courses had to be scrapped across and B. Sc (Hons) Computer Science (CS) was reintroduced in 2001. In 1999, the college started a totally different course – B.Sc Biomedical Sciences in which they take admission through an entrance examination.
The Foreign Language Centre (FLC) was established in 2003 with certificate courses in German, French, Spanish, and Russian. After two years higher module of Diploma in foreign languages was also get recognized. Students could register themselves for M.Sc Mathematics and M.Sc Chemistry from 1997 and 2000 onwards.
The year 2005 saw a major renovate in the previous B.Sc General courses – these were renamed as B. Sc Programmes with radical changes in the core curriculum as well as syllabi making them ‘much in demand’. The four main sreams that were highly in demand were B.Sc Programme in Applied Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Applied Physical sciences.
The session opening in July 2010 saw another milestone change in the University of Delhi (DU). With all the undergraduate(UG) courses under the Faculty of Science as well as Applied Science has being introduced under the Semester Scheme and with new syllabus. Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC), being chiefly a Science college who saw a key overhaul in its systems. Out of thirteen, Eleven UG courses were changed under semester system.
In early start of 2011, the other undergraduate courses like B.Sc (H) Mathematics and B.Com.(H), have also been shifted into the Semester scheme. ANDC has also increased the number of seats in B.Com (H) from 40 to 80 for the ease of its students. Admission year 2012 saw an additional increase in B.Com (H) seats to 100 in the first year of admission. In academic session 2014-15, DU has also started four year undergraduate (UG) programmes under FYUP scheme.
In academic session 2015-16, all courses of the college changed to Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per agreement of National Curriculum of UGC by DU. In academic session 2016-17, College improved its intake capability by 79 in a variety of courses.
In the present academic session ANDC have 1900 students, it does not count students of language courses, and the given number is increasing every year!! The College have also about 200 students registered for the foreign language courses.
OBJECTIVES OF ACHARYA NARENDRA DEV COLLEGE
Vision
ANDC wants to create an education system and research-oriented hub of prominence in India with high international principles. We foresee providing quality education to our students while emboldening them with varied exposure and hands-on research. We stick on to the ideology of ‘Preparing for the future’ by exploring and innovating ‘Beyond the classroom’ as life is not all about the teaching in a classroom.
Goals to achieve
ANDChas various goals in his mind to get a hold on them. Some of them are :
1. Empowering students by giving them experience to cutting-edge areas of education and research by promoting inter-disciplinary studies and learn beyond the chains of textbook knowledge.
2. Imparting functional knowledge which not only motivates students towards their academic excellence but also preparing them for giving back their knowledge to society in economic, social, cultural and intellectual proportions.
3. Generate ideas that will profit society, and to instruct and teach students to work in fields where they will be appreciated both for their capability to work in collaborative spaces using their specialized knowledge, and for their ability to chase research, communicate and solve real-life problems.
4. Provide its students to remain competitive and relevant in international intelligence by offering high excellence academic programmes and research activities which mainly focus on niche areas.
5. Encouraging skilled manpower guidance by producing more high quality researchers, entrepreneurs and graduates to guarantee that country reaps the returns from its reserves in higher education and in turn also help in economic growth of the country.
Admission Process
ANDC will start its registration to UG courses from August 2, 2021. The application forms for PG courses are previously out from July 26, 2021. Candidates looking for admission to UG programmes can also register themselves on the official website of Delhi University (DU) by August 31, 2021 and for PG registration the very last date would be August 21, 2021. The first cutoff list for admission to UG courses will be given out between Sep 8 to Sep 10, 2021 following which the admission process will begin. The admission to PG courses will be done through DUET entrance exam. The exams for it will be held between September 26 and October 1, 2021 most probably.
Eligibility Criteria for Acharya Narendra Dev College
In ANDC, UG programmes are presented under the faculties of Science and Commerce. All the UG curriculums, B.Sc. and B.Com are offered as Honours and Pass courses. Candidates looking for admission to any of the UG courses must pass the 12th class exam in the relevant stream with the maximum marks from a recognized board. Selection is purely based on merit secured by the candidate in the last qualifying examination that is 12th class exam.
PG program is offered under the M.Sc. course. To be qualified for applying to the M.Sc. course candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (UG) in the relevant field from a recognized university. Selection will either be done based on the merit or entrance exam scores scored by the candidate.
Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) Expected Cutoffs 2021:
A candidate has to score the minimum required cutoff scores for acquiring his seat in admission in ANDC. The cutoffs are lay down on the basis of merit scores achieved by the students in their class 12th examinations. The list of cutoffs as per course and category wise is given below:
